At the recent Ball Colegrave Summer Showcase, both Trade and Public visitors selected Celosia Dragon’s Breath™ from Sakata Ornamentals as one of the absolute top varieties for the coming season!
Blue Flag competition
At the Summer Showcase, held at Ball Colegrave’s facilities in West Adderbury, Oxfordshire, all visitors were encouraged to enter the ‘Blue Flag’ competition, by placing a flag in their favourite varieties and new introductions on display. This year saw a record number of visitors attend. With over 1300 catalogue varieties, 200 new varieties and 700 experimental products on display, there was certainly plenty to choose from!
2nd place for Celosia Dragon’s Breath by Sakata Ornamentals
Trade visitor votes (2000 votes placed this year) and Public votes (600) are counted separately and added together for an overall result. Celosia Dragon’s Breath by Sakata Ornamentals came in 2nd place with Trade, Public and overall – an outstanding performance by this new stand-alone variety, and an indication of the great potential for this product on the U.K. market.
Celosia Dragon’s Breath
Growers like the fact that Dragon’s Breath is quick, easy and economical to produce with minimal need for PGRs and fertiliser. Versatility is the key – Dragon’s Breath is highly day-length responsive and produces fiery plumes under short days, whilst foliage turns red under higher light intensity. Retailers like it for its long shelf life and adaptability – Dragon’s Breath is great in containers, beds and planting schemes. Dragon’s Breath exhibits even more red foliage and flowers under adverse garden conditions like heat, humidity and infrequent watering.
