PRODUCTION SPECIALIST
Location: Sakata Holland, Hoofddorp, The Netherlands
Start date: per direct or on mutual agreement
The Crop Sourcing Division is responsible for contracting, administratively managing, actively following, monitoring and delivering varieties that are either multiplied via seeds or vegetatively produced in compliance with market standards.
As Production Specialist you will be primarily responsible for the production of required seeds. This means determining volume, surface, timing and costs by assigning productions to existing seed-producers and acquisition of new production-network. You are a fair negotiator on prices and conditions considering all interests of Sakata as well as its seed-producers.
You visit the seed-producers several times a year. Whilst monitoring progress during growth, you will manage risks through identifying future supply constraints. Your tasks also include administration of production orders in the logistics system, timely preparation for, and allocating of stock seed and parent plants, whilst coordinating dispatch of it to seed-producers.
You will visit seed-producers regularly to perform field inspections and supervise them intensively. You continuously assess quality and quantity through KPI’s. You provide technical-guidelines associated with the cultivation of a seed crop, for example fertilizer, crop protection and harvest momentum including post-harvest care. You will organize the handling and transport methods fully compliant with phytosanitary requirements for global seed sales. You will assist and support your colleagues in the vegetative production of varieties.
You represent Sakata Ornamentals Europe at meetings and conferences related to production and participate in department meetings. You are willing to travel up to 20% of the time outside The Netherlands.
Your background
You have completed a HBO/ WO education in a plant-science direction and supplemented this with relevant work experience in cultivation, seed-production, vegetative production or technology. This practical experience can come from previous work at a seed company, quality/inspections, research or plant breeding.
The challenge
In this role you will create, lead and execute together with the Crop Sourcing Division and Logistics Division a well-oiled S&OP sourcing strategy to reach the best quality, costs, risk, timing and market requirements. You will be pro-actively working with both internal and external stakeholders. You are comfortable in close relationships with colleagues in R&D, Logistics and Commercial Division with the goal to optimally organize the variety introduction and commercial scale-up to achieve complete customer satisfaction. You participate in the production processes in a curious manner, with a hands-on and no nine-to-five-mentality.
